FifthPlay takes majority stake in Vitalsys
Fifth play is a belgian player and high-tech developer of a service platform that connects smarthomes through the Internet, provides access to applications and services of partners in healthcare, comfort and energy sector. The company has now a majority stake in Vitalsys, Belgian leader in telemedicine.
Through its technology, these applications providers can remotely monitor patients at home or outdoors.
In the context of the aging of our society, remote monitoring is of particular relevance. The European Union has made remote monitoring in healthcare one of its top priorities for 2009-2010.
VitalCare is an infrastructure developed by Vitalsys, which will allow users to practice telemedicine across Europe. VitalCare is used by hospitals, social care and insurance companies, and pharmaceutical companies. It is also Vitalsys distributor of professional medical equipment. The combination of both activities Vitalsys match the needs of users on inventory data and telemedicine applications.
The acquisition of VItalsys part of the strategy of fifthplay to expand its e-services platform in the health care strategy . Fifthplay is an innovative company with a strong focus on growth. Medica 2008 (part 2)
Vitalsys has for the third time in row attended the trade fair Medica, which takes place each year in Düsseldorf (Germany). MEDICA consists of 17 halls with 500 specialised stands. The exhibition displays the new trends in medical devices and other infrastructure in the medical field. The number of telemedicine exhibitors has exceeded the milestone of 100 to 113 companies operating in this sector. So there is a growing trend observed in the segment of the telemedicine applications and services.
Like 7 other companies in brussels, Vitalsys was supported again financial and logistical by Brussels Export . Flanders Investment & Trade and Awex organised the participation of 39 other Belgian companies. We had the honor to welcome the Belgian ambassador in Germany to our stand and more than 200 people (+ 30% compared to 2007) were interested to learn more about our telemedicine solutions.
With the permission of the organizing committee for the clinical study BELGIUM-HF, a panel showed the results of the research of this project (4-year follow-up of 700 patients with heart failure) and proved our commitment as a supplier of telemedicine technology.
The profile of our visitors is as follows:
- 10% physicians of hospitals or universities with a telemedicine project already running or one that will soon start. These contacts are specifically interested in the study Belgium HF (hf-www.belgium. be)
- 15% hospital managers, medical insurance, home care, telecommunications and IT companies. - 75% medical equipment dealers, distributors of new technology or additional technology that they can commercialize in their own country.
- 10% companies that provide services (product design, medical certification ... ), competitors in search of information about our technology or to seek partnership.
In summary, the contacts made at MEDICA 2008 were really promising and will allow Vitalsys to grow in its activities, not only in Europe but also in the far east.

Medica 2008
From november 19th until november 22th 2007, the biggest european fair of medicine takes place in Düsseldorf (Germany).
Just like last year, Vitalsys will be present on a stand.
This participation is organised in collaboration with BRUSSEL-EXPORT, an organisation that does a lot of effort to support companies.

5th Innovationday at Verhaert
On oktober 17th 2008 Verhaert will be the host for her 5th anual Innovationday.
This innovatiedag consists of 15 lecturescovering different topics of innovation. One of the topics is about the innovating products of Vitaltronics.
The purpose of this exclusive event for innovation professionals who want to discover new technology, is to bring professionals from consumer markets in contact with experts from B2B environments.

Vitalsys works together with Verhaert
Innovation in medical technology has always been one of the main objectives for Vitalsys.
Bearing that goal in mind, Vitalsys has signed an argument with Verhaert Masters in innovation. Verhaert designs technology platforms and new products for different areas of the market, ranging from medical technology to space programs.
Verhaert will be a Vitalsys partner and Paul Verhaert will seat in the board of directors of Vitalsys.
Together with Verhaert, Vitalsys will bring innovative telemedecine solutions to the market. To realise this, a new company is founded: Vitaltronics.

From the 16th until the 18th of april, Vitalsys will have a stand on Med-e-tel, luxenburg.
Med-e-tel is het international platform for everything about E-health,Telemedicine and Healthcare ICT.
On this fair, specialists, users, researchers and policy makers from more than 50 countries can get acquainted with new telemedicine products, systems en technology.
This event is an absolute must for anyone who wants to be informed about the latest
trends in telemedicine and E-health .
Belgium Gastro Week
From the 20th until the 23th of february, the 20th belgium gastro week took place in the Hilton Hilton Hotel .
This fair brings gastro-enterologists together.
On the stands and the lectures, professionals can each year discover the latest
news in this area.
Theme of this year was «Innovations in digestive diseases: State of the art
2008»
Like last year, Vitalsys has taken care of the technical support on the UCB Pharma stand.
This year, Vitalsys had it's own stand at the fair, where the endoscopy capsule was introduced.

Press conference Belgium HF
On december the 4th , the project Belgium HF ( BELGIUM HF = Better Efficacy in Lowering events by General practitioner’s Intervention Using remote Monitoring in Heart Failure) was introduced to the press during a press conference in the SSMG. Belgium HF is a project in collabortion with the hospital Sint-Jan to detect the early signs of heartfaillure (see also: 500 000 euro from the gouvernment for a research project of the St -Jan hospital). Medica 2007: Vitalsys was present!
From the 14th until the 17th of november 2007, Medica 2007 took place in Dusseldorf.
Medica is the largest european fair in the area of medical technologies. Like last
year, Vitalsys had also a stand on this fair. Many people visited the vitalsys stand
to discover the latest telemedicine technology. During these 4 days, many interesting
contacts took place and the visitors could get acquainted with our latest products.

New blood pressure monitor: the Mobil-O-Graph NG
There is a new version of the blood pressure monitor Mobil-O-Graph. From now on the device is called Mobil-O-Graph NG (New Generation). This monitoris as accurate as the old model but has undergone some important changes. For instance, the device can operate with Bleutooth technology. The design and the buttons are changed to make it more user friendly

Telemedicine on the stock market (part 2)

Saving millions with a blood measurement device
Scientists ask if a new device for blood analysis can be repaid. According to researchers of the University of Hasselt, the gouvernment could save yearly 14,6 million euro by allowing this.
With the device, which approx. costs 1000 euro, a physician can measure the coagulation of the blood of patients by himself. The physician simply pricks in the finger of the patient. The system is already in use in the Netherlands, Germany and Switzerland. At the moment, samples are send to a lab, which is more expensive and complicated.
In belgium, 100000 patients take anti-coagulation medication to avoid the risks of bloodclots. The patients must regulary check the thickness of their blood, because blood that is too thin can also be dangerous. In case of a stomach- or brainhaemorrhage, it could be even life threathening.
According to calculations, the savings on a yearly basis can reach as much as 200 euro for each patient.

September 13th: Care4health congres
On september 13th the Care4health-congres will take pace in the Salons Waerboom (Groot-Bijgaarden).
This congres investigates the new challenges for the most important players in the healthcare industry and the way they deal with the new solutions today.
The forenoon consists out of a conference followed by a roundtable conversation in the presence of the most important players in healthcare today. Some of the discussed themes concern for instance the importance of the exchange of information between different groups in healthcare.
In the afternoon there are several workshops about 'the best practices' in Belgium and foreign countries.

Telemedicine on the stock market
"Because care is not a matter of distance" is the slogan of Vitalsys. Today this slogan is very up-to-date due to the big leap the company just made: going on the stock market!
The "free market" is a springboard to fresh money, new partnerships and an increase in awareness. Telemedicine, still chilly in Belgium, is on the march and Vitalsys wants to be the the market leader; investors will be able to have a share in the medicalization of healthcare.

500 000 euro from the gouvernment for a research project of the St -Jan hospital
The gouvenment of Brussels has thursday decided to support the cardiological service of the St-jan hospital and the SSMG for her project for the detection and follow-up of heartfailure. Permitted on the initiative of the regional minister of scientific investigation, Benoît Cerexhe, is the contribution an allowance of 500000 euro.
Vitalsys takes care of the neccessary technology, gives her expertise and delivers the technologies that are vital for this project.
The research project will last 3 years. Initially, it will consist of the development of the protocol that will make it possible to detect the early signs of heartfailure. In a second fase this study will be focussed on the pro-active interaction with the general practitioner. He will take proper actions to reduce heart failure, in correspondance with the heart specialist.
The long-distance monitoring of heart failure should give a better view to the health strain of this pathology, that allows to identify the early signs of heart failure. The purpose is to reduce on time the frequency and period of time of the hospitalisation.
It is a fact that more than 40 percent of the patients are at risk to have a new hospitalisation within 6 months after the heart failure.

Spirometry - respiration diseases: From now on , the examination and treatments concerning spirometry spirometry are repaid. The conditions are stated in the Government monitor of May 18th.
