What is RSS?

It's not quite known what RSS realy stands for. Some say the abbreviation stands for 'RDF Site Summary' or 'Rich Site Summary'. The most common explanation is 'Really Simple Syndication'. It's an application of the internet language XML (Extensible Markup Language). You can see at the icon of a website offers this service

Why is it helpful?

RSS is used to be notified of articles or news about subject that you choose Because your RSS-reader automaticly refreshes, it notifies you when something new has arrived on the site. That way you don't have to check every time your favorite websites.

What do I need

To read RSS-files, you need a RSS-Reader. RSS-Readers come in every form and size, available for Linux, Macintosh and Windows. Trough google, you can find a list of RSS-readers (newsreaders) that are most of the time free to use and to download

Also in Internet explorer 7 and Mozilla Firefox a RSS neuwsreader is already build in.
